For the past few weeks been doing projects for the school

Mr chan threw all his work to us. Asked us to do for him the cutting etc.

Hmm im very pissed with the rest whom are not contributing

Siva, Vicknesh and myself have done so far 10 projects including the lastest one

eleven.. woah thats alot, more marks weeeeeee. Heh

Mr chan gave us another work to do, fine lo we cut everything to size as he wanted

BUT! the material size he given us are "undersized" ? how the hell are we gonna cut?

He wanted the size to be 39.5? but the workpiece itself is 35.5? what the...

Making our job hard sia this guy, alamak! darah up! blood go upstairs!

didnt attend I/A but went back to Secondary school,

Went back to Yishun Sec with Qaiyumm, Yuz and Ariff.

Agnes, Weijie and Hui Juan came a few minutes later.

Most of the teachers that taught me dont recognise me >.< sad sia

They said that I have changed alot, WOOOOO! hehe thanks (:

Chit chat here and there for awhile. Aqilah came awhile later.

We all went to the Library @ Northpoint to lepak and yada yada...



Tuesday ? Ermm no school yeah?

Hmm went to Causeway Point to survey for Mp3/Mp4.

Asked Mr Chua if we can do anything for him as I have nothing to do.

He told me to "face mill" for him the material to size. Okay no problem

We reported to Mr Chua our CA @ the meeting room.

We were briefed for 30minutes on the designs and structure of the project.

Went back to the Lab and started with the project.

Vicknesh and me started with the programming, done in a few minutes time.

We done cutting the JOB, and for tomorrow will continue with the drilling.

Its really a great opportunity for us as we can showcast our skills :D

Didnt update for few days as I was in a really bad shape.

First kept getting sudden headaches and secondly gastric pains.

I guess im back to normal now. Hmmm lets seee .....

Didnt attend school as I was having gastric pain. Went to polyclinic to get MC

Im under I/A so is a need for me to have an MC, If not I would be kicked out

of attachment. Sad case for me then..

Hmmm the doctor told me not to think too much, dont get myself stressed and drink

plenty of plain water (8 glass a day) yada yada yada...

Then went to Auntie Waty's house to take stuffs that my mom asked me to

Rahmat called and wanna meet up. Met him near Yishun Sec block area.

Rahmat said he got a suprise for me ? I wonder what...

haha nothing interesting just that my old buddy Nasuha came to join too.

Long time didnt see her ever since secondary 3? 4? im not sure..

Ya and Rahmat, please dont say her name out loud whenever u meet me,

cause i will be fucking emo 24/7 and as you notice i will not talk to you

Today had to clean the lab as some idiots came into our lab and made a mess.

Mopped the floor, polished (chey polish sia) like real LOL

Sweep the floor etc. Mr Chan gave us half day.. WOOHOOO!

Went back yishun for friday prayers. This time Qaiyuum decided to go (alhamdulillah)

Kept lecturing him LOL, till he fed up and gave up =P

After prayers, went our seperate ways. I went to visit Nenek (grandmother)

I dozed off till 5 plus? Then played with my niece soccer. Entertain her only la.

After that ate dinner and went home.






Till now... I dont understand why are you avoiding me.

What wrong did I do to you? God give me some answers please.

Today did programming for the whole day.

Need to revise back all the commands as I have really really forgotten

After the 1month break everything gone sia lol

Hmm went out for awhile just outside the lab to get some air

While looking at the scenery, I dont know what actually happen but I blacked-out

regained my conciousness a few minutes later and went back to the lab.

My friends ask "what happen to you ah? why ur face like that"

lol I say I blacked-out lo. Then this karthik wanted to call ambulance, lol wth..

Felt Headache throughout the rest of the hours.

Thanks friends for helping me (: much appreciated.

Either I have been thinking alot lately or Im working out too much

and my body cant take the heat. But hey.. I have achieve it.. an ABS! woooo!!!

okay la im tired, good nite people.

Went out with Andy, Melvin, Zhaoxuan, Shawn, Kim, Kenny, Qingzhe, Sean And chocolate.

Blah Blah Blah.. after that Rahmat called me asking if want to meet him

Met him @ Clarke Quay then we went to Peninsula to survey clothes etc..

After rounding, went to 7 Eleven to grab some snacks.

Lepak bside City Hall MRT.. Rahmat start eating his snacks while I start my emoness.

Sorry ah Rahmat, I didnt talk/entertain you cause im not in the mood

You know why, yeahh so nvm and sorry.

Then took train back to Yishun and lepak at the open space nearby

We sang songs like "more than words" and "Diantara Kalian"

Oh Rahmat sang it wrongly.. HAHAHA. Wrong verse/lines etc. Kekekekeke.

Few minutes later Bryan and his friend came, Rahmat followed them.

Me? I went home to "qadha" Zuhur, Asar, Maghrib and Isyak prayers.

Thats all lo.. boring and nothing much to do

For tomorrow I'll be in my bed I guess if theres no last minute outing.

Met Qaiyumm under his block 7.35AM

Took train... yada yada yada dont want to be so detailed.

Waited for Mr Chua but he didnt came cause why?

we were last minute informed that all teachers are having meeting, what the heck!

wasted our time there.. tsk..tsk

Mr Chan released us @ 11.45AM. Back to Yishun

Qaiyumm went home while i went to the mosque for Friday Prayers.

After Friday Prayer, I stayed back awhile to pray fardhu Zuhur and asked for answers

Islams says "mencari ketenangan" so and so... yeahhh

After my mind is @ ease, I went to aunt Waty's home to visit my Grandmother

Eat and sat on the sofa for a few minutes i dozed off

Woke up @ 5.15PM.. around 7.45PM i went home.







I hope im given another chance to prove my sincerity to her.
and that I really really loved her, and meant all the words that i said.
I know I gave up too soon and you might think that I have forgotten you
But i have not, not a single bit. You are always running thru my mind
I prayed and prayed that one day I will build that enough courage to face you
and say what I wanted to say.

From the bottom of my heart.

Reached school 8.45AM, wore my safety goggle, safety shoe and dust coat.

Waited for Mr Chan or Mr Khong to open the lab for us.

Hmm today Siva, Vicky, Karthik, Seeni and Me did balancing for the CNC machines.

Its our first time doing maintenance balancing of the CNC machine.

Hmm lets see.. One machine took about 3 hours plus for us beginners LOL

Mr Chua said that if we are professionals, we could have done it within 20 minutes

Its our first time doing it mah, relax abit..



So lets see today we did

- cleaning of the lab

- cleaning of machines

- balancing the machines

- cleaning the outside areas

- rearrange the things in the lab


Most hours on balancing the machines, and we are happy we made Mr Chua happy. heh

as he is pissed off with other teachers throwing unwanted stuffs into our lab

and making it unorganise. Tomorrow will be balancing one more machine and we

can start work liao, and waiting for the computers to be delivered to the lab

so we can start our programming with "MASTERCAM"



Rahmat called me and asked if want to catch up with the old times.

Yeah why not.. Met him @ "Goldenvillage's Comic Connection"

Then we went to KFC to have our dinner.

While eating, i heard a "swit" i look around blurly lol

and when i look forward, i saw her. Stoned for a moment and waved.

What a coincidence.. tsk..tsk

im happy la, cause long time didnt see her =(

Okay la great day, Muscles aching liao.. I go rest. tata (:

Went to school alone today as Qaiyumm is down with sickness.

7 days MC.. wow confirm enjoy punye. Haha.

Hmmm today helped Mr Chan to move some machines from one end to another

I tell you its super heavy and need at least 4 person to help

After clearing those machines, had another task to do.. balancing the CNC machine.

Its not an easy job tho, not easy to get the accuracy that you want

Done with the first machine and tomorrow continue with the other 3 machines

Today the weather is dam bad + we are in an aircondition-ed room and

that makes it twice as bad. I was freezing in cold and covered myself with the dustcoat, lol.

Was @ Bishan MRT platform, while walking to the other end,

a ITE student ( chinese girl) was staring at me.

I was like 'why is she looking at me like that?'

I checked my attire to see if theres anything wrong but everything seems fine.

Then while waiting for train, she confront me..

Me : ermmm nope, why?

Girl : oh nothing, just asking cause never see you around before

Me : oh hmmmmmmmm

Me : Engineering

Hmmm ate our breakfast @ KFC, the platter meal not bad.. except for the honey (tasteless)

After our breakfast, Hailed a cab and off for our interview.


upon reaching, the receptionist gave us a warm welcome.

We waited for awhile while the receptionist confirms with Mr Lanz.

We were told to go to ASM TECHNOLOGY 2, hmmm so yeah there were two buildings.

No wonder the place is huge.. lol



Reported to the security guard and we were given this :

Met Qaiyumm under his block, made our way to Yishun MRT.

While talking, I saw her.. but don't know if she saw me. lols k nevermind

Suppose to report to campus 8.00AM but we came at 8.35AM, yeah we were late

We were briefed by Mr Chan about our attachment stuffs and so on

we were grouped by numbers one,two and three.

We will be under I/A for 4months? around there la

Hmmm and its called :

S.P.E.T.A = Singapore Precision Engineering Training Association

so yeahh.. We will be trained by these specialists.

I was grouped into team 2 with qaiyumm and other few mates

Under Mr Chua, favourite teacher tsk...tsk

After the 3.00PM break, we were briefed again about the matter..



Then.. Mr Chan took out a list


Mr Chan : These people please stay back for awhile

Mr Chan : Amyrull Hafiz, Muhammad Qaiyumm and Karthik

Us : *feeling scared*

Mr Chan : Okay, the reason i ask you to stay back is because i have good news for u

Us : *blur*

Mr Chan : I have picked the best three to attached to a company

Mr Chan : so i have picked you three to go for an interview

Mr Chan : don't worry, the places of this company is near your area


Mr Chan : and you guys will be paid $500/month

Us : OMG! WOOOOO!



so yeahh, feeling happy and relieved.

Leaving everything else to god's and fate's hands

Went to friday prayer with Akid. Then went to Cik waty house as usual.

Before going in, Akid gave me try something called "Laughing Gas"

I Swear that thing really made me laugh LOL. Only for a while la...

Then akid left for his test thingy, while i went to eat.

Then followed Cik Waty to send Faris for his "Bowling shoot thing"

Lepak at Cik Waty house awhile, Akid came few hours later and went out again

Rested and watch "suci" till it ends and walked Faris home.

He scared after listening to the ghost story. LOL kk i go sleep. nites

Today went to campus for briefing attachment thing.

Met Hafiz @ Boon Keng MRT (his name also Hafiz.lol)

1 hour plus briefing sia, freaking sleepy liao

Mr Tan Chew Beng gave me my results liao, Yes ah! happy with the results.

After the briefing went to cafeteria to eat, then off home

Reached home, worked out then sleep. Nites..

Went over to grandma's home today to emo, no la just kidding

She cooked many dishes and asked me over to eat.

Got my favourite sia, "powdered prawn" lols. After that relaxed @ the living room

Around 6 plus, grandpa came home. Greeted him and continue to emo @ sofa (kidding).

After his "asar prayers" he sat down and talked to me.

As per normal, he advice me this and that.. talk about education and such.

Today got new topic, "FUTURE" hmmm he told me when i have started working and so..

always share your wealth with your parents and not to ever forget them.

I nodded and nodded lol.

as i missed it earlier on.

Well some friends called me up for some gatherings, but i declined.

Sorry guys, no mood for fun. Next time perhaps.

Hmmm the ceremony is so emotional that it got me in tears.

Paris Jackson, Micheal Jackson's daughter, made me in tears.

Pity his childrens, still young and alredy lost a father's love.

As for his burial, he will be buried as in the way of a muslim.

went to polyclinic today, nurse examined and said if no improvement, i have to go

The nurse told me she is worried that i might have a case of i duno what withdrawal

thing, i forgotten the name. so yeah didnt attend class today and missed today's test

After awhile.. she got to go, walked with her to the nearby minimart cause wanna

buy stuff, haha crackers!. Bid goodbye to her and i went to buy my stuff

Talked till 7.30pm, then accompanied him to the nearest bustop and he went home.

Rushed home to watch my programme lo, Rahmat fault ah i miss some nice scenes.

Haha nevermind, tomorrow got repeat. Hmmm meaningful day today.

Watched at DOWNTOWN EAST, OMG scary la sia, first time watch horror movie in months!

After movie, we walked out and soon we went our seperate ways.

I didnt went home tho, haha tonned @ Jasper's home with Hong, Iggy and Rahmat.

A 1 Hour Walk From DOWNTOWN EAST to Jasper's House, and he said its only 15minutes

Fugitive Islamist militant arrested: Singapore



SINGAPORE (AFP) - - The alleged leader of an Islamic militant group accused of plotting to crash an airliner in Singapore has been arrested in Malaysia after more than a year on the run, according to the government.

Singapore's Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement Mas Selamat bin Kastari had been captured by Malaysian authorities, but gave no other details.

"Mas Selamat has been arrested by the Malaysian Special Branch (MSB) in a joint operation between the MSB and the Internal Security Department," the statement sent to AFP said.

The Straits Times said Kastari was caught on April 1 in the Malaysian state of Johor, which sits just across a causeway from Singapore, and has been held in custody by Malaysian authorities since.

Kastari is said to be the head of the Singapore cell of Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), an underground group linked to Al-Qaeda and blamed for the 2002 Bali bombing and other bloody attacks in Southeast Asia.

Singapore officials have alleged he was part of a plot to hijack an airliner in Bangkok and crash it into Changi airport -- one of Asia's busiest -- in 2001 following the September 11 attacks in the United States.

Now 48, he escaped from his high-security detention centre in Singapore on February 27 last year after squeezing through a toilet window that had no bars and climbing over a fence.

Kastari's escape triggered a massive manhunt, but a flood of tips from the public, some inspired by a bounty of one million Singapore dollars (647,520 US dollars) put up by two local businessmen, turned out to be false alarms.

He had not been formally charged at the time of his escape, and was being held under the Internal Security Act, which allows for detention without trial.

The Straits Times cited "senior intelligence sources" as saying Kastari was arrested on April 1 in Johor.

It is believed he is being held for interrogation by Malaysian authorities under the country's own internal security law, which also allows for detention without trial.

The newspaper said he was thought to have been in Johor since his escape, and that his re-arrest followed a joint operation by Malaysian and Singaporean security agencies.

"He is an extremely skilled and dangerous terrorist and the fact that he has been recaptured improves the security situation in Singapore and the region," said John Harrison, a security analyst at Singapore's Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

"This is irrespective of what he may or may not have been able to accomplish during his escape," he told AFP.

Harrison, manager of research at NTU's International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research, said whatever morale boost the JI gained from the escape has now been erased.

"Secondly, what it does show is that there is a tremendous regional cooperation against JI and that as long as that continues the JI will not be able to successfully re-establish itself as the organisation that it once was."

Harrison praised Singapore and Malaysian authorities for their cooperation and said they had kept the news under wraps to get more intelligence away from the media glare.

Sidney Jones, an analyst with the International Crisis Group, applauded the arrest, but said it was not an ending.

"In some ways the bigger danger will still come from the people at large," she told AFP from Jakarta.

"I think we've got a number of little splinters. I don't think this arrest will change their strategies."

She said "the important thing is (to) keep up the pressure from the law enforcement agencies and try to find these other people."

Rohan Gunaratna, a security analyst at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore, described Kastari's arrest as a "very significant blow to the JI network because JI is trying to revive."

"Mas Selamat is a key icon of the Jemaah Islamiyah organisation, he is one of the most dangerous terrorists in this region, his arrest is a major setback to the JI organisation," he told broadcaster Channel NewsAsia.

Kastari had fled Singapore in December 2001 following an Internal Security Department operation against Jemaah Islamiyah. He was arrested in Indonesia in 2006 and handed back

July 22? Tsunami will hit SINGAPORE??!!



While being hit by a tsunami does not rate as one of the greatest fears of Singaporeans, the repercussions of being caught unawares will no doubt be devastating.

It was with this in mind that, after the destructive Indian Ocean tsunami struck in 2004, the National Environment Agency (NEA) with the National University of Singapore and the Nanyang Technological University embarked on a study to evaluate the probability and impact of a tsunami on Singapore.


The two-year study, which cost $1.3 million, confirmed that impact of a tsunami on Singapore is likely to be minimal as even an earthquake of seismic order 9.0 and above will take more than 10 hours to reach Singapore.

The finding is not unexpected as Singapore is sheltered by the surrounding land masses.

Moreover, the shallow waters in the Malacca Straits and South China Sea - unlike the deep waters in the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean - will significantly slow down any tsunami propagation and dissipate its energy.

However, the study considered two possible occurrences that might generate a tsunami that will affect Singapore - these include an undersea landslide near Singapore, and great earthquakes of the order 9.0 and above.

The study found that the likelihood of major undersea landslides near Singapore is very low.

In addition, numerical simulations of a tsunami triggered by undersea landslides show that the impact on Singapore is expected to be minimal.

Seismic zones

The study also identified two seismic zones, namely the Sunda Arc at the Andaman Sea (north and west of Sumatra) and the Manila Trench at the South China Sea (northern Philippines), that have the potential of producing large earthquakes.

Simulations showed that tsunami triggered by earthquakes along these two seismic zones are expected to take more than ten hours to arrive at the Singapore coast.

By the time the tsunami waves arrive in Singapore, the wave energy will have largely been dissipated and hence, the likely impact on Singapore will be minimal.

In addition, great earthquakes of magnitude 9.0 and above have been infrequent events. The Indian Ocean tsunami is the only earthquake of such magnitude in recorded history.

There has also been no known record of a tsunami affecting Singapore. During the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, measurements at the coastal waters west of Singapore did not record any significant rise in the sea level.

Possible impact

However, some of Singapore's beach areas are still potentially vulnerable to tsunami inundation in the scenario of a magnitude 9.0 earthquake at the Manila Trench.

These include beaches at West Coast Park, Labrador Park, Sentosa and the Southern Islands, East Coast Park and Pasir Ris Park.

The projected rise in sea level in the unprotected beach areas is estimated to be between 0.4m and 0.7m, and the inundation level is estimated to be less than 50m from the shore.

Tsunami response plan

While the potential of a tsunami impact on Singapore is low, those at unprotected beach areas can still be exposed to some risk in the event of a tsunami.

NEA has developed a tsunami response plan with the cooperation of the relevant agencies, namely the Singapore Police Force, Maritime Port Authority (MPA), Jurong Town Corporation (JTC), Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC).

Due to our sheltered geographical location, there is an expected long lead time before the first wave arrives in Singapore.

The Tsunami Response Plan is able to leverage on this lead time to provide early alerts to the public, and activate evacuation at the vulnerable public beach areas.

In terms of specific roles, NEA will continue to monitor the regional seismic activities for possible occurrence of tsunamis.

In the event that a tsunami is assessed to affect Singapore, NEA will issue early alerts and warnings to the respective agencies and provide the public with information on the tsunami.

The police and SDC will ensure that the public at the vulnerable public beach areas are alerted and facilitate the evacuation from these areas.

The agency also advises the public to stay away from these unprotected beach areas and heed the advisory to evacuate should a tsunami warning be issued.

Singapore Tsunami alarm system


The first phase of Singapore's national tsunami early warning system to be included in a wider Indian Ocean network has been completed, according to media reports on Friday.

Using four seismic sensors, the system is currently capable of exchanging real-time earthquake information with Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia, the environmental officials said.

"The benefit of such a system is that it cuts down on the time needed to assess a situation, enables us to alert the relevant parties earlier and gives everyone more time to respond," The Straits Times quoted National Environment Agency (NEA) chairman Simon Tay as saying.

The grid will be integrated with the regional Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning System proposed after the December 26, 2004 tsunami that killed more than 220 000 people.



"Access to more sensors located over a much wider area allows us to enhance the accuracy and speed of detecting earthquakes in the region which may cause a tsunami," said a NEA statement.

Prior to the upgrade, the system could only detect and analyse regional seismic activity data collected in Singapore.

The second and third phases of the project involve installing new seismic sensors and models to test the impact of tsunamis on the city-state.

Singapore was not hit during the 2004 tsunami.


SINGAPORE safe from Tsunami?

TWO-year study has confirmed what has been anecdotally known about Singapore - that its shorelines are relatively safe from tsunamis.
The National Environment Agency (NEA) commissioned the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to conduct a study to ascertain Singapore's vulnerability to the effects of giant tidal waves caused by underground earth movements in 2006.

The study found that two regions near Singapore had the potential to cause earthquakes - the Sunda Arc fringing Indonesia, and the Manila Trench bordering the Philippines. Using computer simulation, the researchers found that it would take an earthquake measuring about 9 on the Richter scale for a tsunami to be generated that could reach Singapore. And it would take at least 10 hours for the tsunami to hit Singapore's shores.

The study also found that if this happened, Singapore's waves of no more than 0.7 metres above the average sea level would hit beaches of no more than 50 metres from the shoreline.

Six unprotected beaches here were also identified as potential vulnerable areas - West Coast Park, Labrador Park, Sentosa, the Southern Islands, East Coast Park and Pasir Ris Park.

But the NEA said that this still posed limited threat because the nearest residential area from the coastline in Singapore was 80m inland and any built up area was constructed at least 1.25m above the highest tide level of about 1.5m above the average sea level.

Still, the NEA said it had put in place a system involving various agencies to alert the public and evacuate vulnerable beaches. And the lead time of 10 hours before any tsunami hit Singapore was enough to do all this, said the director-general of NEA's meteorological services, Mr Foong Chee Leong.

The study had been commissioned in response to the devastating Indian Ocean tsunami on Dec 26 four years ago (04), which killed more than 225,000 people. That tsunami, triggered by an undersea earthquake off the Indonesian island of Sumatra measuring about 9.2 on the Richter scale, did not record any rise in sea level in Singapore, said Mr Foong.

Real science is predicting the next/current sun cycle to be the worst in 50 years. The first two sunspot's of 2006 are moving in reverse direction.


August 15, 2006: On July 31st, a tiny sunspot was born. It popped up from the sun's interior, floated around a bit, and vanished again in a few hours. On the sun this sort of thing happens all the time and, ordinarily, it wouldn't be worth mentioning. But this sunspot was special: It was backward.

"We've been waiting for this," says David Hathaway, a solar physicist at the Marshall Space Flight in Huntsville, Alabama. "A backward sunspot is a sign that the next solar cycle is beginning."

Sunspots are planet-sized magnets created by the sun's inner magnetic dynamo. Like all magnets in the Universe, sunspots have north (N) and south (S) magnetic poles. The sunspot of July 31st popped up at solar longitude 65o W, latitude 13o S. Sunspots in that area are normally oriented N-S. The newcomer, however, was S-N, opposite the norm.

This tiny spot of backwardness matters because of what it might foretell:

A really big solar cycle.
Solar activity rises and falls in 11-year cycles, swinging back and forth between times of quiet and storminess. Right now the sun is quiet. "We're near the end of Solar Cycle 23, which peaked way back in 2001," explains Hathaway. The next cycle, Solar Cycle 24, should begin "any time now," returning the sun to a stormy state.


Satellite operators and NASA mission planners are bracing for this next solar cycle because it is expected to be exceptionally stormy, perhaps the stormiest in decades. Sunspots and solar flares will return in abundance, producing bright auroras on Earth and dangerous proton storms in space:


But when will Solar Cycle 24 begin?

Maybe it already did on July 31st, The first spot of a new solar cycle is always backwards. Solar physicists have long known that sunspot magnetic fields reverse polarity from cycle to cycle. N-S becomes S-N and vice versa.
"The backward sunspot may be the first sunspot of Cycle 24."







First, the sunspot lasted only three hours. Typically, sunspots last days, weeks or even months. Three hours is fleeting in the extreme. "It came and went so fast, it was not given an official sunspot number, The astronomers who number sunspots didn't think it worthy!

Second, the latitude of the spot is suspicious. New-cycle sunspots almost always pop up at mid-latitudes, around 30o N or 30o S. The backward sunspot popped up at 13o S. "That's strange."

These odd-isms stop Hathaway short of declaring the onset of a new solar cycle. "But it looks promising," he says.

Even if Cycle 24 has truly begun, "don't expect any great storms right away." Solar cycles last 11 years and take time to build up to fever pitch. For a while, perhaps one or two years, Cycle 23 and Cycle 24 will actually share the sun, making it a hodgepodge of backward and forward spots. Eventually, Cycle 24 will take over completely. Then the fireworks will really begin.

We are from another galaxy in the process of joining with the Milky Way. The Milky Way is actually not our parent galaxy. The mystery of why the Milky Way has always been sideways in the night sky has never been answered -- until now.



"This first full-sky map of Sagittarius shows its extensive interaction with the Milky Way," Majewski said. "Both stars and star clusters now in the outer parts of the Milky Way have been 'stolen' from Sagittarius as the gravitational forces of the Milky Way nibbled away at its dwarf companion. This one vivid example shows that the Milky Way grows by eating its smaller neighbors."

The study's map of M giants depicts 2 billion years of Sagittarius stripping by the Milky Way, and suggests that Sagittarius has reached a critical phase in what had been a slow dance of death.


For only a few percent of its 240 million-year orbit around the Milky Way galaxy does our Solar System pass through the path of Sagittarius debris," Majewski said. "Remarkably, stars from Sagittarius are now raining down onto our present position in the Milky Way. Stars from an alien galaxy are relatively near us. We have to re-think our assumptions about the Milky Way galaxy to account for this contamination."

The new findings will help astronomers measure the total mass of the Milky Way and Sagittarius galaxies, and probe the quantity and distribution of the invisible dark matter in these systems.

What is the Mayan Calendar?

The Maya calendar is a system of complex and highly developed calendars created by the Maya Civilization of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. This series of calendars, includes a sacred 260-day calendar, called the Tzol'kin, a 365-day calendar called the Haab, and a 52-Haab cycle called the Calendar Round, which synchronised the Tzol'kin and Haab cycles.



The importance of time in the Maya culture

The Maya believed that time was cyclical instead of the western conception of linear time. This means that they thought that time repeated itself, so therefore, if they knew the past they could predict the future. By understanding time, they Maya could gain power over their world.


The Tzol’kin

The Tzol'kin calendar combines twenty day names with thirteen numbers to produce 260 unique days. It was used to determine the time of religious and ceremonial events and for divination.


Origin of the Tzol’kin

The exact origin of the Tzol’kin is not known, but there are several theories. One theory is that the calendar came from mathematical operations based on the numbers thirteen and twenty, which were important numbers to the Maya. The number twenty was the basis of the Maya counting system, taken from the number of human fingers and toes. (See Maya numerals). Thirteen symbolized the number of levels in the Upperworld where gods lived. The numbers multiplied together equal 260. Another theory is that the 260-day period came from the length of human pregnancy. It is postulated that midwives originally developed the calendar to predict babies’ expected birth dates.


The Haab

The Haab was the Maya solar calendar made up of eighteen months of twenty days each and a five day month at the end of the year known as Wayeb or Uayeb that was called "the nameless days." Victoria Bricker estimates that the Haab was first used around 550 B.C.E. with the starting point of the winter solstice. The Haab was the foundation of the agrarian calendar and the month names are based on the seasons and agricultural events. For example the thirteenth month, Mac, may refer to the end of the rainy season and the fourteenth month, Kankin, may refer to ripe crops in the fall.

Wayeb

The five nameless days at the end of the calendar called Wayeb were thought to be a dangerous time. Lynn Foster writes that, "During Wayeb, portals between the mortal realm and the Underworld dissolved. No boundaries prevented the ill-intending deities from causing disasters." To ward off these evil spirits, the Maya had customs and rituals they practiced during Wayeb. For example, people avoided leaving their houses or washing or combing their hair.

The long count calendar

There was also a Long Count calendar which started at [0.0.0.0.0] (with Maya record) on August 11, 3114 BC according to the "Goodman, Martinez-Hernandez, and Thompson" correlation (nicknamed "GMT"), the most widely accepted correlation between the Maya and Gregorian calendar. This cycle is 1,872,000 days in length, terminates on the Winter Solstice of (December 21) AD 2012 and is designated [13.0.0.0.0] or [0.0.0.0.0], since the Maya believed that time is somehow periodical. Another widely-used correlation, that of Lounsbury, correlates the start-day to August 13, 3114 BC and the terminal date to December 23, AD

The end of the world?

The turn of the great cycle is conjectured to have been of great significance to the Maya, but does not necessarily mark the end of the world. According to the Popol Vuh, a sacred book of the Maya, they were living in the fourth world. The Popal Vuh describes the first three worlds that the gods failed in making and the creation of the successful fourth world were men were placed. They Maya believed that the fourth world would end in catastrophe and the fifth and final world would be created that would signal the end of mankind.

The date December 21st, 2012 A.D. (13.0.0.0.0 in the Long Count), represents an extremely close conjunction of the Winter Solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator (Equator of the Milky Way) and the Ecliptic (path of the Sun), what that ancient Maya recognized as the Sacred Tree. This is an event that has been coming to
resonance very slowly over thousands and thousands of years. It will come to resolution at exactly 11:11 am GMT.








The Tzolkin is a 260-day calendar based around the period of human gestation. It is composed of 20 day-signs, each of which has 13 variations, and was (and still is) used to determine character traits and time harmonics, in a similar way to Western astrology. The Maya also used a 365-day calendar called the Haab, and a Venus calendar, plus others. They measured long time periods by means of a Long Count, in which one 360-day year (a "Tun"), consists of 18 x 20-day "months" ("Uinals"). Twenty of these Tuns is a Katun; 20 Katuns is a Baktun (nearly 400 years); and 13 Baktuns adds up to a "Great Cycle" of 1,872,000 days, ( 5200 Tuns, or about 5125 years).

Mayan scholars have been attempting to correlate the Long Count with our Western Gregorian calendar, since the beginning of this century. There has been massive variation in the suggested correlations, but as early as 1905, Goodman suggested a correlation only 3 days from the most popular one today. Known as the GMT correlation, or "correlation # 584283", this was finalized in 1950, and puts the start of the Great Cycle ( day 0.0.0.0.0) on 11th August 3114 BC, and the end-date (known as 13.0.0.0.0.) as 21st December 2012.

The Mayan calendar does not end in 2012 at all, that it is like the odometer on your car, as each section of the odometer reaches 9 and then clicks over to 0, the next number to it starts a new cycle, so that when all the numbers again reach 0 all the way across the odometer - the last number will change from 1 to 2 and the new cycle starts all over again.


The end of the Great Cycle is the culmination of a series of long-term sunspot cycles which will flip the sun’s magnetic field, causing earthquakes and flooding on earth. Moreover, the changing magnetic field will alter the endocrine production of the pineal gland.
